Ahead of Jesy Nelson’s hotly-anticipated comeback into music, the singer has inked a new deal with Republic Records, home to artists such as Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Drake, and more, with the aim of dominating the American music charts.
Gearing up for the release of her debut solo single, Nelson, who is also signed to Polydor Records in the UK, is striving to “make it big” globally.
On Friday 13th August, a source told The Sun: “Jesy never really managed to make it big in the States with Little Mix, but thanks to the deal with Republic, she’s got the best team around her.
“There is a real buzz when it comes to her solo career and this single could be the thing to take her career to the next level.”
Jesy’s deal with Republic Records only opens more doors and gives the singer opportunities she previously never had during her time with Little Mix when it comes to breaking into the U.S. music scene.
According to rumors, Nicki Minaj will be featured on Jesy’s upcoming single, which is set to drop next month, and with Minaj also signed to Republic Records, the likelihood seems strong.
According to The Sun, Jesy’s forthcoming record will include samples from P Diddy, Black Rob, and Mark Curry’s 2001 song Bad Boy For Life.
With her solo effort, which is believed to sound extremely similar to the band’s music, Jesy is apparently at risk of causing friction between herself and her former Little Mix bandmates.
According to a source who spoke to The Sun, Jesy’s upcoming music embodies some similarities that might upset her former bandmates, whom she allegedly only communicates with through lawyers.
The source said: “Things have got progressively more strained, but seeing her return with a song and an image that could have been taken straight from the Little Mix playbook is going to be very divisive.
“The girls always vowed to stay friends after all they had been through, but now most of their communication happens through intermediaries including lawyers and managers, which is a real shame.
“Jesy’s new video shoot could have been a Little Mix single, it’s packed with choreography and the style is very similar too.”
Furthermore, Nelson’s departure from the band, which was due to mental health issues and a desire to pursue a solo career, will be perplexing to the women if her reappearance sounded and seemed the same as her time with the band.
