The ‘Pick Up Your Feelings’ singer took home the award for ‘Album Of The Year’ for her 14-track EP ‘Heaux Tales’ which was nominated alongside The Weeknd’s ‘After Hours,’ Dababy’s ‘Blame It On Baby,’ Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Good News,’ Nas’s ‘King Disease,’ and last but not least, Chloe x Halle’s ‘Ungodly Hour.’
Sullivan’s mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago and is now in remission, joined her on stage to accept the prize. Given the events of the previous two years, the musician stated that they “would’ve never expected to be here” and “didn’t see any of this happening.”
The ‘Girl Like Me’ singer said: “My mom is my prize, this is my gift. It means more to me than anything that she’s here with me. She’s supported me all my life. She’s pushed me and led me all my life, so I’m so grateful for her.”
Before going on to dedicate her award to Black women, saying:
“This award is bigger than me,” Sullivan said. “It’s for all the women, all the Black women that are amazing and strong that have inspired me all my life. I’m so glad that I was able to tell part of our stories. I hope I did y’all proud.”
That wasn’t the only time Sullivan went on stage though, as the singer took the stage with Ari Lennox, shattering their performance of “On It” which remains as one of the album’s favourite. She also performed her new single “Tragic.”

“Heaux Tales” debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart when it was released in January. Following her debut album “Fearless” in 2008, it became Sullivan’s highest-charting album and her second top-10 album.
Congratulations to Jazmine Sullivan on both her stunning gown and her epic Album Of The Year grab.
