Following the recent backlash over the use of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Equals Pi artwork in the promotion of Tiffany & Co.’s “About Love” campaign, Jay-Z and Beyoncé are partnering with the luxury brand to support students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

According to reports, Tiffany & Co. teamed with Jay-Z’s Carter Foundation and Beyoncé’s BeyGOOD foundation for the About Love Scholarship program for HBCUs.

Tiffany & Co. Chief Sustainability Officer Anisa Kamadoli Costa remarked: “We are only as strong as the work we do together, and we are honored to partner with The Carters. Their relentless dedication to lifting underrepresented groups is the inspiration for the About Love Scholarship program.”

Tiffany & Co. has pledged $2 million in scholarships to students at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, Norfolk State University in Virginia, Bennett College in North Carolina, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, and Central State University in Ohio who are studying in the arts and creative fields.

President of Lincoln University, Dr. Brenda A. Allen said:

“We would like to thank the Shawn Carter Foundation, BeyGOOD, The Carters, and the Tiffany & Co. family for including Lincoln University in this amazing gift.”

Allen also added: “Lincoln has placed a high priority on supporting the arts and humanities on our campus. Providing financial support for students pursuing these majors enhances their ability to more fully engage their studies.”

President of Central State University, Jack Thomas said:

“This opportunity is timely as our students come from many different socioeconomic backgrounds. These funds will have a tremendous effect on who we recruit and our students’ success as they move on to graduate from professional schools and into their careers.”

Beginning Friday, September 10 and ending Sunday, September 26 at 11:59 p.m. ET, each institution will accept online applications for the About Love HBCU Scholarship program. Scholarships will be offered to students who meet the entry requirements, with preference given to those in need of immediate financial assistance.
