The multi-hyphenate has joined the cast of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter, making her the first new cast member to be confirmed.

Although little to no information about the film has been revealed, it has been rumoured that the Emmy-nominated actress would play Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman. Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld will reprise their roles as Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen, respectively.

The sequel will be directed by Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller returning as credited co-writers with David Callaham. Last summer, Miller, who is producing the film with Lord, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Christina Steinberg, and Alonzo Ruvalcaba, took to Twitter to tease fans about what to anticipate in the forthcoming blockbuster.

The elated actor-producer shared her excitement for the role on her Instagram Stories, posting a screenshot from THR and captioning: “The way I have loved Spider-Man since the third grade. A dream come true.”
