Following the huge popularity of acclaimed writer-producer Issa Rae’s HBO Max series ‘Insecure,’ the actress and producer is teaming up with HBO Max for an unscripted series scheduled to debut this summer.
SWEET LIFE: LOS ANGELES is a reality show that follows the lives of young, Black adults as they accomplish their dreams in the heart of South LA. Issa Rae said in a Warner Media press release that she is eager to offer audiences a new outlook on young African-Americans.
“We’re so proud to present a grounded and fun slice of young Black LA life. We hope the HBO Max audience will relate to and fall in love with this group of friends as much as we have.” said Rae.
The TV show, which will be produced by Issa Rae and several other well-known production companies, will follow a group of “young, strong-willed, ambitious Black friends” while they navigate their twenties. The show promises to take viewers on a ride-along into their family lives, career, and love.
This latest endeavour serves as yet another collaboration with the streamer as Rae and Miramax are reportedly resurrecting Project Greenlight. The show is set to focus on female filmmakers who are offered the opportunity to direct a film. Issa Rae will also appear as an executive producer in each episode and mentor the producers.
