In her new music video ‘I Am The Stripclub,’ the ‘Switch’ rapper responds to those who accuse her of blackfishing.
Critics attacked the femcee for allegedly using make-up and a dark wig to appear as though she was black or mixed race, but she slammed her accusers, calling their accusations “ridiculous and baseless.”
In a series of tweets on Friday, Iggy defended herself, saying she was wearing the “same shade” of make-up she’d been wearing for three years.
“I’m the same color as I always am, just in a dimly lit room with red lights,” Iggy said when someone uploaded a photo of the two together and claimed she didn’t ‘look tanned’ back then.
The ‘Don’t Need Y’all’ rapper went on:”It’s the same makeup from every other part of the video just with a Smokey eye and different wig. Just ignore them, who cares? Let em talk.”
Iggy then shared a photo of Armani’s make-up line, stating she used shade 6 foundation and angrily remarked: “This is the color I wear, it’s on the arm color of a tan white person.”
As she was noticeably getting frustrated, she tweeted: “I’m not wearing crazy dark makeup at ALL. Everyone in the club scene looks darker, it’s a club scene!
“I’m sick of ppl trying to twist my words or make s**t a problem when all I’ve done is try a hair color.”
Responding to another tweet, Iggy explained: “I can’t care about something that ridiculous and baseless. I’m wearing a shade 6 in armarni foundation, it’s the same shade I’ve worn for the last 3 years.
“It’s the same shade in every music video since sally Walker. Suddenly I wear a black wig in a club scene & its an issue.”
Iggy simply responded, “I don’t care… f**k them ppl darling hahaha” when a fan requested her to “clar up” the issue after she was accused of blackfishing.
Another fan suggested that the femcee could just say she looked darker because her pictures have been “edited” as that would in turn solve the issue of people thinking she looked darker than she is.
Iggy responded saying: “Or maybe the internet could watch my music video and see for themselves instead of tryna dog me because a random page I have nothing to do with posted an edit? Leave me be, I don’t bother anyone, ppl stay tryna create s**t outta nothing online. Just BORED.”
Before later adding: “F***ing hell. It’s always an issue, when it’s ME. I mind my business – just leave me be. Ppl on here love to twist what I do and say and it’s pointless. It changes nothing about my life.”
Iggy has previously been accused of cultural appropriation, where she had to respond to backlash for allegedly ditching her Australian accent in favor of a ‘blaccent,’ tone reminiscent of an African American urban accent.
At the time, the femcee explained that her accent change during rap was intentional as it was a deliberate move to ‘sound’ Black in her music, rather than an Australian.
