The GQ article saw friends, relatives, and regular associates all contribute to chronicle the last days of Juice WRLD.

Dan Hyman’s piece for GQ begins with more information on Juice agreeing to undergo a recovery program shortly before his death in December 2019. Juice was scheduled to start a program in two weeks, according to Hyman’s article, but first planned an out-of-state trip to Chicago with friends and a security team.

An Australian tour that concluded one week prior to Juice’s accidental overdose featured an emotional sit-down at which friends voiced concern for the artist’s welfare, according to recording engineer Max Lord.

Lord recalled: “I and a couple other people had come to him in tears, like, ‘We’re worried about you, and we’re scared we’re going to lose you if you keep up these habits. And we have to do something. And he agreed. And we had treatment booked for later [starting on December 22]. That was the soonest they were available to get him in. It hurts. It really hurts.”

The piece also featured audiences from the likes of Offset, Benny Blanco, G Herbo and more and something they could all agree on was Juice’s instantly identifiable songwriting talent, as well as the anxiety about his addictions.

Speaking of his encounters with Juice, Offset reflected on his sessions with the rapper at his LA home:

“I worked with Juice twice at his crib in L.A., and he spoke to me about being the biggest star that he can be, and that he was just at the beginning of his path. His intelligence was clear. He had so much love for his people and where he came from.”

Over the course of many years, Peter Jideonwo, a member of Juice’s management team, said he and other team members brought Juice to as many as 30 doctor visits. According to Jideonwo, Juice was flown from Los Angeles to Chicago at one stage to have his brain and heart scanned.

Juice’s mother, Carmella Wallace, is also featured in Hyman’s piece and per the article, she had a transparent and nonjudgmental relationship with her son over his drug use. Wallace clarified that during one of their last conversations, Juice told her that he was about to start a program in a few weeks.
