Civil servants are back to the drawing board drawing up plans for extra tough fourth tier of Covid restrictions in England in case the current system fails to make a dent in the coming weeks.

The new measures could include restaurants and non-essential retailers such as clothes shops will be forced to close in areas where tier 3 rules have not brought the virus under control. Public transport will also be restricted to essential use only.

Sources from Whitehall has made known that a decision could be made by mid-November when there is enough data gauge the effectiveness of the three-tier system.

According to iNews, plans for circuit breaker lockdowns are also being considered alongside this additional tier.
