In remembrance of Sarah Harding, Girls Aloud fans have been streaming the band’s music since the news of Sarah’s passing broke.
So far, Girls Aloud’s cover of The Pretenders’ I’ll Stand By You has reached number 13 on the UK iTunes chart in less than 24 hours. Their rendition, released in 2004, lasted two weeks at the top of the UK singles chart, earning the group’s second number one.
Also, The Promise, their 2008 smash single, is currently at number 45, whilst their debut track, ‘Sound of the Underground’ is at number 73.
The movement began shortly after some beloved fans of Girls Aloud took to social media to push for the band’s resurface on charts across the globe, with one saying:
“Can we try and send Girls Aloud to number one please?,” with another also saying, “Let’s get I’LL STAND BY YOU to Number 1!”
Another said in support of the idea to push ‘I’ll Stand By You,’ “Get this song to number 1 in memory of #SarahHarding.”
The move will certainly be appreciated by the members of Girls Aloud, just as Harding was back in March, when she thanked fans who helped her single, ‘Wear It Like A Crown,’ reach number one. Streaming and sales earnings went to The Christie NHS Foundation, where she was being treated for cancer.
