Coldplay is looking beyond the stars!

On Thursday evening, Coldplay premiered their latest single “Higher Power” in orbit, with the aid of an extraterrestrial bond. Thomas Pesquet, a French ESA astronaut currently stationed on the International Space Station, performed a specially created performance of the song incorporating dancing alien holograms.

However, “Higher Power” isn’t the first song to be played in space. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Christmas classic “Jingle Bells” entertained crew members Walter M. Schirra, Jr. and Thomas P. Stafford onboard NASA’s Gemini VI-A on Dec. 16, 1965.

Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” and David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” are two other well-known tracks that have been performed outside of Earth.

“Higher Power” is said to be the lead single from the band’s forthcoming ninth studio album.
