Ayra Starr returns with her latest offering, “Tornado” under Mavin Records and Republic Records, produced by Skillies, Shizzi, and RiotUSA. The track comes with an official video and arrives ahead of her third studio album Starrgirl, due August 14th. Starr debuted the song during her captivating appearance at the Tiny Desk Concert last week, giving the track its first proper public airing before the release.

The single lands at a moment when her momentum is genuinely hard to argue with, as the Nigerian sensation has amassed over 7 billion global streams, 1 billion YouTube views, and her fan-favourite single, “Rush” surpassing 500 million Spotify plays — making her the first African female artist to have two songs cross that threshold. “Where Do We Go” has added over 1.3 billion streams since its release and picked up a remix with Peggy Gou. She also made her daytime television debut on The Jennifer Hudson Show performing that track, and has collected two Grammy nominations, three MOBO Awards including Best African Music Act — the first female winner of that category in 16 years — and a BET Award for Best International Act along the way.

Additionally, Starr’s collaborations with industry icons such as Wizkid, Stormzy, Rema, Coldplay, Tiwa Savage, and Leigh-Anne, allude to her diverse talents, with a Rihanna public co-sign raising the bar even further. Ayra is now slated to bring Starrgirl to a live audience at All Points East Festival in London on August 21st, four days after the album’s release.
