Taking to Instagram, Janet Jackson has unveiled an extended trailer for her upcoming documentary, dubbed ‘Janet Jackson Doc,’ and it has cameos from some of the greatest personalities in the entertainment industry.
The documentary will be released on Jan. 28th on Lifetime and A&E to commemorate the 40th anniversary of her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1982. ‘Janet Jackson Doc’ will include cameos from the likes of Missy Elliott, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, Teyana Taylor, Whoopi Goldberg, Samuel L. Jackson, Q-Tip, and more.
Speaking about the documentary, Janet said: “This is my story, told by me. Not through someone else’s eyes. This is the truth. Take it or leave it. Love it or hate it. This is me.”
The documentary has been in development for over five years, according to the trailer, with Janet and Randy Jackson serving as executive producers. Janet’s father, Joe, died in 2018, and the documentary was primarily shot at that period, with a large section of the trailer devoted to describing her working and personal connection with him.
“There were times when I just didn’t understand where I actually fit in,” Janet says. “My father was very strict. He was in charge of my life, my career. My father said, ‘You’re gonna sing.’”
The documentary also utilizes archive material to delve deeper into pivotal events in Jackson’s life, such as the death of her brother Michael Jackson, who died in 2009.
