Nigerian music superstar Ayra Starr has unveiled her second album, “The Year I Turned 21,” a project sharing the narrative of personal evolution and artistic growth, that arrives with the soul-stirring single “Last Heartbreak Song” with Giveon.
The much-awaited album also explores themes of love, self-discovery, and empowerment. It houses previously released hits, ”Commas” and “Woman Commando,” with Anitta and Coco Jones, serving as their powerful anthem for self-assertion.
Speaking of the long-awaited album, Starr stated: “This is a coming-of-age story. The rollercoaster of emotions and genres intertwined tells the story of a 21-year-old African girl and superstar. Twenty one isn’t just an age, it’s a moment of change in your life. A time of necessary growth, hurt, realizing your power… love. Not everybody’s “21” happens at 21. Whenever it is for you; learn from it, feel through it… that’s what matters.”
“The Year I Turned 21” sees the Grammy-nominee reflect on her diverse influences, from jazz to Afrobeats, and her focus on self-care. With collaborations with global stars such as Asake, Darkoo, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, Rvssian, Young Jonn, amongst others, as well as over a billion streams and accolades including her recent BET nomination, Starr affirms herself as a voice of her generation.

With a performance scheduled at Glastonbury and a touching tribute to her late father in “The Kids Are Alright,” Ayra Starr honours her roots while looking forward to a bright future in music.
