The tracks, which will be featured on the singer’s upcoming third album, usher in a new era for the Canadian talent.
Speaking to Complex, Alessia explained: “The theme of duality is recurring on this next album, so it made sense to release two songs to introduce both ends of the thread. The first side being ‘Sweet Dream’ which represents the hardship and helplessness surrounding my last couple of years. It’s about insomnia and the hoops my brain jumps through at night while I’m supposed to be asleep. Never fun!”
Cara’s ‘Sweet Dream’ is a pop song that feels like a practical progression from Cara’s previous tracks, such as “Trust My Lonely,” as the cheerful, catchy melodies represent a lively and enjoyable side of Cara that fans don’t usually get to hear, despite the glum themes.

Talking about “Shapeshifter,” the Brampton-native described the track as “witty and sophisticated in a way that I feel represents the more mature and light-hearted parts of the album.”
The Salaam Remi Gibb-produced track draws its inspiration from Amy Winehouse and features luscious harmonies with the harp adding a peaceful, glittering quality to the piece.
Cara shared: “I had to go through lots of pain to regain my footing and this song feels unwavering, despite it not being about the happiest of things.”
