In a podcast interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game, Fivio Foreign said that his contract with Mase’s RichFish label included a $5,000 advance.
Sharing on the podcast, Fivio opened up about how he first caught the interest of Mase, after the music mogul heard his 2019 track, ‘Blixky Inna Box,’ featuring Jay Dee and Dee Savv.
Fivio explains that he “just signed the sh*t, immediately,” when he was presented the contract without having a lawyer present.
“The n***a that brought me to him, he was like, ‘Yo, man. Just sign that shit, You buggin,’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, read it.’ He’s like, ‘Alright, just sign it. It’s good.’ So, I just signed it,” Fivio remarked before admitting that the amount of his advance was merely $5,000. Host Wallo appeared visibly perplexed by the sum.
He added, “That shit hit. I thought that shit was going to last until whenever it was going to last. That shit ain’t last two weeks.”
Fivio continued by praising Mase’s industry acumen and giving him credit for passing it on to him, however, Wallo wasn’t having it.
Fivio then said, “I don’t really be complaining or crying over spilled milk. I already made this decision. For me, I’m in a better situation now. He get what he get… But I control my money.”
Fivio’s revelation comes two years after Maze publicly criticized Diddy for turning down a $2 million offer to re-acquire his publishing rights, which was allegedly purchased in 1996 for $20,000. Meanwhile, 50 cent asserted in an interview with Rap Radar’s Cigar Talk that Mase ironically was the owner of the publication rights to Fivio.
Although the two still have a contract in effect, Cigar Talk presenter Naji subsequently emphasised that, contrary to what 50 had stated, Mase does not control any of Fivio’s publishing.
Fivio clarified as much during his chat with Peter Rosenberg, saying, “So it was a production deal… He don’t own none of my publishing.” Fivio went on to say that as his career took off, he approached Columbia Records, and his debut studio album B.I.B.L.E, which was released in April, was distributed by Columbia and RichFish.
