The second season of Netflix’s scripted Selena series, which follows the life of legendary singer Selena Quintanilla, premiered this week. The series’ second installment depicts what may or may not have unfolded when the artist met a devoted fan, who just happens to be Beyoncé, in a Houston mall in the 1990s.

The scene shows the two shaking hands for a fleeting moment at the Galleria, with Beyonce too nervous to say something and Selena going out of her way to greet the star-struck fan.

Beyoncé fans couldn’t help but wonder what could have been as the union was confirmed in a throwback Beyoncé interview.

In the resurfaced interview Beyooncé says: “But I didn’t say much to Selena because I wasn’t a celebrity and I just say her and said ‘hello’ and kept it moving,”

“Definitely growing up in Texas, I heard her on the radio and I think listening to her album, even though I didn’t know exactly what she was singing, it helped me in the studio with my pronunciation… I think she is a legend and I admire her, and she was so talented. So, I’m very happy that—even though she didn’t know who I was. I’m still so excited that I got that opportunity.”

Fan reactions to the scene are just as dramatic as the short clip. See below.
