The next in line to suffer from Dababy’s homophobic backlash is singer Dua Lipa, who recently took to social media to criticize the rapper for his statements during his act at Rolling Loud Miami.
Lipa wrote on her Instagram Story: “I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
According to Billboard, Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ track which features Dababy has been pulled from several radio stations, whilst others have reduced the number of airplay, marking a 20% drop.
The song was played on 70.2 percent of radio stations before DaBaby’s infamous homophobic statements but has now dropped to 49.5 percent.
DaBaby has been chastised by everyone from Elton John to Chris Brown as a result of his comments and has subsequently suffered cancellations from several events, including Governors Ball and Lollapalooza.
DaBaby was scheduled to make a video apology before getting kicked off Lolla. According to Billboard, DaBaby’s managers contacted seven fall festivals that had booked him and Lolla, promising to tape an apology before he took the stage in Chicago.
However, DaBaby took to social media and released an ill-advised attempt at an apology, which failed at calming down disturbed waters.

& for any brands, networks, or artists that like to profit off of black rappers influence on the culture, without understanding it or having the patience to deal with what comes with the position we play in our culture.

While it is appropriate to criticize and hold Dababy accountable for his statements, it is rather unfortunate that its ripple effect has affected artists who have featured the rapper, such as Dua Lipa.
