A copyright infringement suit has been filed against Dua Lipa for her hit track “Levitating.”
The track which was released in 2020 saw massive success and went on to peak at No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent 41 weeks, becoming the longest-running top-10 hit by a solo female artist.
According to TMZ, Artikal Sound System, a Florida reggae band, has sued the pop diva, asserting that Lipa’s “Levitating” is a plagiarized version of their 2017 song “Live Your Life.”
In the lawsuit, Arkital Sound System names Lipa and her label Warner Records, arguing that they are entitled earnings from the hit track.
The lawsuit states that Lipa and the individuals she was working with heard “Live Your Life” and then made a version of it by making “Levitating,” according to court records acquired by the outlet.
Dua Lipa and DaBaby later collaborated on a remix for “Levitating” in October 2020, with the rapper being booted from the track later in the summer after making homophobic remarks during his Rolling Loud Miami act.
At the time, the ‘IDGAF’ singer stated on her IG Story, “I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments. I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”
