The first installment of DMX’s last two-part interview aired on TV One’s autobiographical series, Uncensored, on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
The exclusive interview took place just three weeks prior to X’s untimely death on April 9. Viewers should expect X to reflect on his upbringing in Yonkers, New York, his 30-year music career, and more.
According to Bossip, Cathy Hughes of Urban One Founder and Chairwoman said of the interview: “We have one hour with the late rapper in his own words. For DMX to be with us just three weeks before God called him home, I believe it’s truly divine intervention.”
On Monday at 10 p.m. ET, the second half of DMX’s last interview will air, in which the late rapper’s family and friends will commemorate his life and influence on hip-hop.
DMX told a story about seeing an angel when he was four years old during the candid interview. He was struck by a car while visiting a family friend in Yonkers, New York, with his mother and younger sister. Outside the building where his mother was meeting a neighbor, he was ordered to keep an eye on his sister. He came across a dime and went to the shop to purchase a lollipop and a ball.
X recalled: “As soon as I stepped off the curb coming down from the store, a car hit me [and] knocked me way over on the other side of the street up under another car.”
He attempted to stand up, but was ordered to lie down by a white woman with a clipboard. The lady vanished after his mother arrived on the scene and an ambulance was sent.
He went on to say: “You’d think that she would’ve stuck around because she saw the whole thing. I don’t know, I felt like it was an angel. She got no business being in the ‘hood with a clipboard.”
The interview comes ahead of ‘Exodus’, X’s posthumous album, which is set to be released on May 28. The star-dubbed album includes features from the likes of Usher, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, the Lox, Snoop Dogg, Griselda, and Nas.
