The main cast members for the upscale TV series, which will premiere next month, have been unveiled by the channel.

‘Highlife’ is said to “follow the lives and loves of a group of ambitious, glamorous young British West Africans all chasing their own idea of success.”

The series will also “highlight a community where high family expectations often impact career choices, relationships and even friendship groups,” according to the report.

The exciting series is said to be a “‘relatable portrayal of British life,” with cast members promising a once-in-a-lifetime viewing experience.

Kiddwaya, a 27-year-old cast member, said on Twitter, ” ‘It’s the first show of its kind in British history and it promises deliver on jaw dropping original content [sic].”

Also joining the elite cast is renowned singer-songwriter, Kamille, who turned to social media to express her enthusiasm for the TV series while addressing fan queries about the show.

Touching on her decision to partake in the series, Kamille said:

“One of the main reasons why I wanted to be part of the show is to kind of show People of Colour doing amazing things, and I’m not used to really seeing that on national TV.

“I want other Black girls to see Black women in prominent positions on TV, showing them that they can excel and they can go for their dreams.”

The show’s producers also emphasized the significance of representation.

Vivienne Molokwu described the series as a “glossy, ambitious, and unapologetic,” show that “represents an exciting opportunity to portray young Black Britain without a gun or gang in sight.”

The forthcoming series will also feature talents such as Bernicia, Cuppy, Tomi, Chiefer, Irene, and Toni, in addition to Kamille and is co-produced by CR8TIVE ROW and Optomen.

“To improve Black representation on and off screen, amplify the conversations around representation and portrayal, and drive long-term change,” Channel 4 is committed to their recently announced Black to Front initiative, with ‘Highlife’ coming as one of several endeavors announced in recent days.

Other shows set to premiere as part of Channel 4’s Black to Front initiative includes, ‘Unapologetic,’ a topical discussion show to be hosted by Zeze Millz and Yinka Bokinni, a recently announced Property Renovation Programme hosted by Tinie Tempah, a one-off edition of Mo Gilligan’s The Big Breakfast, and reinvented editions of several of Channel 4’s most popular programmes, including Celebrity Gogglebox, Countdown, and Channel 4 News, which will all feature Black talents.
