Today, domestic terrorists attacked a foundation of our democracy: the peaceful transfer of power following free elections.
We must reestablish the rule of law and hold them accountable.
Democracy is fragile. Our leaders must live up to their responsibility to protect it.

Today we faced an unprecedented assault on our Capitol, our Constitution, and our country.
The assault was fueled by more than four years of poison politics spreading deliberate misinformation, sowing distrust in our system, and pitting Americans against one another.— Bill Clinton (@BillClinton) January 7, 2021
The match was lit by Donald Trump and his most ardent enablers, including many in Congress, to overturn the results of an election he lost.
The election was free, the count was fair, the result is final. We must complete the peaceful transfer of power our Constitution mandates.— Bill Clinton (@BillClinton) January 7, 2021
I have always believed that America is made up of good, decent people. I still do.

As we all take in the staggering fifteen (15) arrests made for today’s attempted coup, please join me in calling for a national commission to investigate the infiltration of US law enforcement by white supremacist groups.

Today’s shameful assault on our democracy — anointed at the highest level of government — must not deter us from our responsibility to the Constitution. Tonight, we will move forward with the certification of President-elect Joe Biden’s election.

We have sworn an oath under God to defend the Constitution. We uphold that oath at all times, not only when it is politically convenient.
Congress has no authority to overturn elections by objecting to electors. Doing so steals power from the states & violates the Constitution.

The "curfew" in DC started 2.5 hours ago and THOUSANDS of Trump supporters are still all over the city.
Again, the way DC and other cities have enforced curfews against Black & Brown people is TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
