According to NBC News, the petitions weas filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, with James Spears declaring that his daughter “is entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required.” According to the filing, “grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist” due to Britney’s current situation.
This comes following a 13-year-long conservatorship largely controlled by the singer’s father.
Britney’s counsel had accused her father of trying to acquire around $2 million in installments before stepping down as trustee of her estate. James’ “true motivation,” according to attorney Mathew Rosengart, is to “extort” millions from his daughter.
Britney petitioned the court to end her 13-year conservatorship in June, saying:
“I am traumatized… I’m not happy, I can’t sleep. I’m so angry, I’m insane. It’s my wish and my dream for this to end.”
It was a shocking testimony from the music sensation. The singer termed the conservatorship “abusive” and said she couldn’t make medical or financial decisions. The singer also said she couldn’t get rid of an IUD because she wanted more kids.
Spears was placed under conservatorship after her public breakdown in 2008. After which her father James and Andrew Wallet were named co-conservators. Andrew Wallet resigned as co-conservator in 2019, which saw Bessemer Trust Co. named as co-conservator.
