Breakdancing joins the list of sports disciplines for the 2024 Olympics in Paris and will be taking place at the prestigious downtown venue Place de le Concorde.
In the pursuit of attracting more representation from the younger audience, the International Olympic Committee saw street dance battles added to the medal events and also confirmed skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing would be added for Paris.
The @Paris2024 sports programme has been approved. It includes these main features:
– 100% gender equality
– Four additional sports: Skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and breaking
– More youth-focused events

However, skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will make their debut at the delayed Tokyo Games which had to be postponed due to Covid-19 and is currently set for July 23rd, 2021.
Following the 1970s pioneering name by hip-hop in the U.S., breakdancing will be called ‘Breaking’ at the Olympics.
Surfing is set to be held at the beaches of Tahiti, as the International Olympic Committee agreed in March.
