A strong woman and an impressive one at that, Danai will be perfect to play Shirley Chilsom as she has proven in her Tv series The Walking Dead and a series of Marvel blockbuster movies Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
Shirley Anita Chisholm born on November 30th, 1924 was an American politician, author, and professor. She was the first-ever black woman to be elected to the United States Congress in 1968, serving as a representative for New York’s 12th congressional district for seven terms from 1969 to 1983.
After which she became the first African-American candidate to run for a major party’s nomination for the President of the United States, running for the Democratic Party in 1972. Chilsom’s work was mostly based on early childhood education and the expansion of food and nutrition programs for the poor. She retired from Congress in 1983 and taught at Mt. Holyoke College, whilst she continued with her political organising.
Gurira is also a playwright and known for her Broadway play Eclipsed, of which she was nominated a Tony Award for Best Play.
