Black Panther sequel filming has been halted for the second time.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been placed on hold because of Letitia Wright’s injuries, according to insiders close to the production.

Wright got injured in late August while filming a stunt rig scene in Boston.

Upon acquiring her injury on set, Wright who plays the role of Shuri, the sister of Black Panther (T’Challa) has taken some time off the production and is currently in London. Since then, the production has only shot scenes that do not require the actress. Shuri, portrayed by Wright, was the movie’s breakout star, grossing $1.3 billion worldwide and winning three Oscars. When star Chadwick Boseman succumbed to cancer in August 2020, the character was elevated to the role of the sequel’s leading character.

For the past two months, Wakanda Forever had been filming primarily in Atlanta. The film’s director, Ryan Coogler, is reported to have shot all of the film’s footage that can do without Letitia.

According to reports, the production is taking a break to reorganize the shoot in order to continue in early 2022. All production-related activities concerning Black Panther will be paused at the start of Thanksgiving.

Representatives for Wright said, “Letitia has been recovering in London since September from injuries sustained on the set of Black Panther 2 and is looking forward to returning to work early 2022. Letitia kindly asks that you keep her in your prayers.”

The release of Wakanda Forever was already moved back in October, from July 8 to November 11, 2022. The new release date, according to insiders, is still in place.
