Billie Eilish has some unusual expectations for the reception to her new album, Happier Than Ever.
The ‘Everything I Wanted’ singer revealed in a recent interview that she hopes people will be so impacted by the message that ‘break up with their boyfriend.’
Certainly, based on the subject of the tracks Your Power and Lost Cause, it’s apparent that the 19-year-old wants to inspire her followers via music.
“I hope people break up with their boyfriends because of it,” she said to Rolling Stone magazine. “And I hope they don’t get taken advantage of.”
Billie’s romantic life has received a lot of attention in the last year, thanks to her new boyfriend Matthew Tyler Vorce.
Following the release of her documentary, The World’s a Little Blurry, Eilish made the news for a prior connection with Brandon Adams, who goes by the stage name 7:AMP.
The documentary alluded that the couple’s relationship was fraught with problems, with Billie revealing to Rolling Stone that she wasn’t pleased with the released clip.
“I don’t like to share that part of my life, and I was not planning on sharing that part of my life ever,” she explained.
Following the documentary’s release, fans started targeting Adams and his family on social media. Several fans assumed that Billie’s song ‘Your Power’ was influenced by the complexities of the relationship at the time.
Billie expressed her displeasure with the speculation by stating,”Everybody needs to shut up. [The documentary] was a microscopic, tiny, tiny little bit of that relationship.
“Nobody knows about any of that, at all. I just wish people could just stop and see things and not have to say things all the time.”
In other parts of the interview, the ‘Lovely’ singer admitted to being “clingy” in previous relationships but said she has spent the last two years learning to be independent.
‘Happier Than Ever’ out July 30th.
