Billie Eilish, 19, has long been outspoken about how her body image struggles and how it affected the way she dresses.
Speaking to British Vogue in an interview released Sunday, Eilish opened up about receiving a barrage of comments on her appearance as a teenager and why she has now chosen to ditch her trademark baggy clothing.
“It made me really offended when people were like, ‘Good for her for feeling comfortable in her bigger skin,’ ” Eilish said. “Good for me? … The more the internet and the world care about somebody that’s doing something they’re not used to, they put it on such a high pedestal that then it’s even worse.”

The multi-Grammy Award winner had previously won baggy clothing, in an effort to prevent body shaming on the internet.
During a 2019 ad for Calvin Klein, Eilish revealed her reason for choosing baggy clothes, saying: “I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know? Nobody can be like, ‘Oh, she’s slim-thick, she’s not slim-thick, she’s got a flat (butt), she’s got a fat (butt). No one can say any of that, because they don’t know.”

Going on in her interview with British Vogue, Eilish explained how her new approach to her look may be seen as hypocrisy but argues it’s about empowerment and the right for everyone to be happy in their own skin.
She said: “Suddenly you’re a hypocrite if you want to show your skin, and you’re easy and you’re a slut and you’re a whore. If I am, then I’m proud. Let’s turn it around and be empowered in that. Showing your body and showing your skin – or not – should not take any respect away from you.”

Making her stand, Eilish addressed critics who might come at her for wearing lingerie for the cover, saying: “My thing is that I can do whatever I want.”
She added: “It’s all about what makes you feel good. If you want to get surgery, go get surgery. If you want to wear a dress that somebody thinks that you look too big wearing … if you feel like you look good, you look good. It’s about taking that power back, showing it off and not taking advantage with it. I’m not letting myself be owned anymore.”
