A blazing video of Kiely Williams and Farrah Franklin, formerly of 3LW and Destiny’s Child, surfaced a year ago and quickly went viral.
It was taken from the pilot episode of a reality show about the formation of a supergroup made up of ex-girl group members from all around.
Calls from all over social media for the show to make its debut have been heard and after a year, the show has been resurrected and is set to air on BET.
The program is formally dubbed ‘BET Presents The Encore,’ and it was produced by reality star Carlos King (maker of ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta,’ ‘Hollywood Divas,’ and ‘Belle Collective.’)
The 10-episode season, which will debut on June 9, will feature eight artists from prominent 90s and 00s groups, as well as a soloist.
The supergroup has 30 days to record an album in a home studio, perfect their vocals, and practice complex choreography.

Speaking of the long-awaited show, King, who’s been hard at work, developing the show said in a statement: “I felt that girl groups never got its just do … and I, as a content creator, wanted to … educate the masses on who I feel are the forgotten sisters of music. I wanted to pay homage to that industry and really give these women an opportunity to share their stories and their struggles.”
Went on to add: “I’m super proud of this show. It’s a love letter to girl groups. It’s a love letter to this genre that I feel like has always been super underrepresented, and I truly hope with the success of this show … it reignites the record labels to invest more in girl groups. I definitely think there’s an appetite for that.”
