During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, R&B veteran Ashanti spoke about a “crazy” run-in she had with a music producer after the two had completed work on a number of tracks, requesting certain unsavory deeds in exchange for what was supposed to be a free collaboration.

Ashanti remarked at the 15-minute mark of the aforementioned interview, “One producer, like, we did two records together, he was like, ‘Okay I’m not gonna charge you, you’re my homie.’ And then when it came time to put it on the album, he was like, ‘Well, let’s take a shower together.’ And I thought he was joking! And then he’s like, ‘Nah I’m dead serious. You know, let’s go out and let’s take a shower together and I’ll give you the records. If not I need 40 racks per record.’”

Without naming anyone in particular, Ashanti went on to clarify that she’d been working with the producer for a few weeks and that she “had to make some phone calls” to ensure that everything “was handled.” The shocking nature of the story then saw Charlamagne tha God respond, “Jesus Christ,” as everyone was left perplexed.

Ashanti previously discussed the incident, although she left out many specifics at the time. According to the Daily Mail, Ashanti was charged $45k when she initially rejected an advance from a music producer who had “a little crush” on her. Her family had to intervene, and the producer apologized and handed her “three records for free.”
