ASAP Rocky is currently on trial in Los Angeles, facing charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm linked to a 2021 shooting incident. The rapper, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The alleged incident occurred on November 6th, 2021, in Hollywood. According to police, an argument escalated between Rocky and Terell Ephron, known as ASAP Relli, during which Rocky is accused of firing a handgun. The victim sustained a minor injury and sought medical treatment afterward. Rocky, accompanied by two others, reportedly fled the scene on foot.

Rocky was arrested in April 2022, and Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón emphasised the potential dangers of discharging a firearm in a public area, stating it posed risks not only to the victim but also to bystanders.

“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood,” Gascón said.

Despite the serious charges, Rocky‘s defence team, led by attorney Joe Tacopina, remains confident. Tacopina has described the case as “fundamentally weak” and stated that Rocky is eager to share his account of events. Ahead of the commencement of the trial, Rocky declined a plea deal that would have resulted in 180 days of jail time.

While fans await court proceedings, they’re also anticipating the release of his upcoming album, tentatively titled Don’t Be Dumb, as the legal proceedings unfold.
