ASAP Rocky and Rihanna first crossed paths over a decade ago, collaborating on the remix of “Cockiness (Love It)” in 2011. However, their bond extended beyond music, as Rocky recounted a vivid memory of when Rihanna helped him gain access to a nightclub after being denied entry.
“I was kicked out of this nightclub. They wasn’t giving me no access to it. This is when I’m just starting out, so nobody knows me. I was with Matthew Williams and Virgil [Abloh]. I was getting into it with the bouncers,” Rocky shared. “She [Rihanna] came out. We just locked eyes. She didn’t even know us, but she was like, ‘Yo! Why y’all not letting him in? What’s wrong with you?! Let that man in!’”
Rocky reflected on the connection they felt, even from those early days, saying, “I knew from when we were younger. We both did, I think. So it was only right when we got older. We just kind of reconnected.”The pairs friendship has flourished over the years, with both artists finding themselves in the same creative circles. Despite their separate relationships, their paths aligned again in 2019-2020, and soon after, they began building a life together.
Rihanna also spoke about their chemistry earlier this year in Interview Magazine, where she recalled their 2012 VMAs performance. “We saw fashion the same. We saw creative the same,” she explained. Over time, their support for each other’s brands and artistry deepened, and their connection grew. By 2019, their relationship took a romantic turn. Rihanna mentioned they approached dating with caution, given their shared history and the emotional risks involved.
“We knew what we’re capable of, and the trouble that we could bring to each other’s lives,” Riri reflected. “We can make or break each other’s hearts. And so, we started dating with a lot of caution.”
Now parents to two young boys, Rocky and Rih have embraced family life while noting the unique personalities of their sons. Rza, their eldest, is described by Rocky as more introverted, taking after his dad. “Rza is going to keep to himself. He’s an introvert,” Rocky said. Adding that their second son, Riot, is more like his mom, exhibiting a lively and extroverted nature. “Riot’s an extrovert—he’s just like his mom,” Rocky added.

“Riot’s an extrovert—he’s just like his mom. Rza is more so like his dad, like me. And he’s my twin. He got his mom’s forehead, but he got everything else from me. I love my boy’s big forehead! I loved it on his mother. Listen to… pic.twitter.com/XphpTFU3zq
