Cook earned nearly 5 million shares of Apple stock as part of his pay package when he replaced Steve Jobs as CEO a decade ago, according to an SEC filing.
The news comes a week after Tim Cook reportedly donated $10 million worth of Apple stock to an unknown charity. Cook recently reached billionaire status about a year ago with his net worth being valued at $1.4 billion presently. His annual salary as CEO of Apple amounts to $3 million.
According to CNN Business, a percentage of the bonuses were based on Apple’s performance in the S&P 500 during the previous three years. That section was prompted this week after the company came in as one of the index’s best performers, earning over 192 percent shareholder returns between August 2018 to 2021.
Cook joined Apple in March 1998 as SVP Global Operations. He then became EVP of global sales and operations before becoming CEO in August 2011, two months before Jobs died in October.
