In the deadly stabbing of 14-year-old Dea-John Reid, two more teenage boys have been detained.
At about 7.30 p.m. on Monday, Reid was racially abused, stabbed, and killed on College Road in Birmingham’s Kingstanding neighborhood.
A 14-year-old from Wolverhampton and a 16-year-old from Great Barr are the unidentified teenagers currently detained. According to West Midlands police, they were arrested on suspicion of murder and brought into custody for questioning.
Reid’s murder investigation has previously resulted in the arrest of three persons. Michael Shields, 35, was charged with the boy’s murder on Friday at Birmingham Crown Court and is set to stand trial next year.
On Friday, two more suspects, Birmingham’s George Khan, 38, and a 14-year-old appeared in the city’s magistrates court and are currently being remanded in custody until Tuesday’s crown court appearance.
According to a police statement, detectives continue to “work diligently” and are “acting on information” being given to make arrests.
The statement continued: “It comes as the family of Dea-John has appealed for calm in our communities following his tragic death. It follows social media rumours encouraging trouble in retribution for the teenager’s murder this weekend.”
Our thoughts and prayers remain with Dea-John’s family and loved ones in this difficult time.
