Mr Eazi and producer Dre Skull have dropped their latest joint offering,” Lambo” ahead of their forthcoming joint mixtape, Yard & Yanga, a cross-cultural project blending Afrobeats, dancehall, and global club influences, inspired from a longstanding friendship between the two artists.
The team-up is perfect for the project, as Mr Eazi helped popularize Afrobeats globally through hits including “Leg Over” and “Skin Tight,” while Dre Skull has produced some of modern dancehall’s most celebrated releases, including Vybz Kartel‘s Kingston Story (2011) and Popcaan‘s Where We Come From (2014) and Forever (2018) albums. The title symbolizes the meeting of Jamaican “yard” culture with African “yanga,” meaning style and swagger.
The lead single “Lambo” features Vybz Kartel featuring a bass-heavy, dancefloor-ready anthem with a fusion of Afro-Caribbean rhythms. The collaboration marks a rare partnership between Mr Eazi and the iconic Jamaican dancehall figure. Dre Skull explained the creative fit, saying: “Kartel is such a generational talent and I had no doubt he would bring a special energy to this record and compliment Eazi’s infectious hook.” Vybz Kartel proved a natural collaborator on the track, as he has enjoyed a long-running creative partnership with Dre Skull dating back to the 2009 single “Yuh Love” and the acclaimed 2011 album Kingston Story.
Mr Eazi and Dre Skull have previously collaborated on “Sekkle and Bop,” which also featured Popcaan, and last year’s dancehall pop single “Dance Pon Me.” The new mixtape is positioned as a celebration of African and Caribbean musical synergy, with Dre Skull‘s production emphasizing global bass culture while Mr Eazi brings his signature Afropop approach. The project is expected to resonate across international club circuits and festivals, highlighting the growing interconnectedness of African and Caribbean music scenes.
