Ahead of the December 8th awards show at London’s O2 Arena, Cat Burns, Flo, and Nia Archives, have been announced as this year’s nominees for the rising star award.

The coveted award, which has previously gone to the likes of Sam Smith, Adele, and others, throws a spotlight on emerging stars for their exceptional talents amongst their peers, while promoting and expanding their influence in the music scene.

Burns, then 20 years old, had her first platinum-selling success in 2020 with the TikTok hit “Go,” which peaked at number two on the UK singles chart. Back in May, Burns released her 6-track EP, “Emotionally Unavailable,” and joined Ed Sheeran on his European leg of his Mathematics Tour. She’s also gearing up to join Sam Smith for his UK and Ireland tour dubbed, “GLORIA” in 2023.

Taking to social media to express her excitement, Burnas wrote:

“not me being shortlisted as a #BRITs Rising Star artist🥹.. everyone around me knew how much I wanted to achieve this this year, so thank you for shortlisting me @BRITs 🥹& I honestly don’t like to say my wants aloud incase they dont happen but I really do hope I win this tehe🥹”

Archives, a Leeds native who taught herself how to make music when she was 16 years old, makes the shortlist with her soothing lo-fi jungle music for introverted extroverts.

In August of last year, Archives spent the early morning hours in her modest bedroom studio recording her debut EP, Headz Gone West.

She said of her nomination, “Words won’t describe how I’m feeling about being nominated for the Brits Rising Star. Growing up and watching it on TV, I really never thought it could happen to someone like me.”

The trio has recently been on a roll in the music scene, releasing their debut single "Cardboard Box" earlier this year and receiving high praise from artist's such as Kelly Rowland, Missy Elliott, Sugababes, and Sza. The trio - who have performed on shows including Jimmy Kimmel, Later with Jools Holland, and events such as Glamour Women of the Year Awards, Elektrum Festival, and others - said of their nomination: "We all grew up watching the Brits with our mums, and have been inspired by the girl groups and powerful female artists who have performed on that stage. "We’re grateful to everyone who has believed in our vision so far and can’t wait to share more music with the world. For the first time in Brits Awards history, the event will be held on a Saturday (February 11th) at London's O2 Arena, and will air live on ITV and ITVX.
